Child and Family Health Nurse
The first 12 months of a baby’s life is full of change, growth and development. Many new parents find this time exciting and also overwhelming. A child and family health nurse is a trained professional who provides support, education and information to families on all aspects of parenting. Support during the first 12 months postnatally is essential to achieving the most satisfying transition to parenting as possible.
There is a vast amount of research stating quality support from a consistent care provider remarkably improved physical and psychological outcomes for both mother and baby. Child and family health nurses have a positive impact on the well-being of the entire family.
Your Child and Family Health Nurse
I will meet you in your home or over the phone to attend postnatal support. These visits and calls happen in the first 12 months after your baby is born. The home visits will be up to 1-2 hours in length. Where possible, it is ideal to have 1-2 antenatal visits/calls to put into place a postnatal plan and supports to assist in making the transition to the postnatal period as seamless as possible. During visits, I will provide information, reassurance and emotional support to the family about breastfeeding, sleep and settle, normal newborn behaviour and growth and the mother’s postnatal recovery.
