Saying the TENS was helpful is an understatement.
I clinged to that thing like crazy.
I never put it above a level 3, but I had it on for a good maybe 6-8 hours and into active labour.

Very, very helpful.
Thank you so much!!!

Felicity’s Story

It was amazing, more women should know about them! Thank you!

It was actually a little too good! I was at 10cm with it on half strength and the midwives had to take it off so I could feel my contractions enough to start pushing.

Nicolette's Story

I was determined with my second child that I would not be relying on medications to assist me with the pain.

I would like to thank Kate for spending the time to discuss with me alternative pain relief options before I gave birth to my second child.  During the birth of my first son I coped by accepting the traditional medical pain relief options, including Gas and Morphine. The gas mad me feel dry and less alert while the morphine made me shiver and itch when the effect had worn off. I was determined with my second child that I would not be relying on medications to assist me with the pain.

I hired from Kate a TENS machine, this was amazing and my number one coping device! I really could not have made it through the 12hrs of labour without it.

Kate has made a quality purchase with her equipment; since I have not seen or used a smaller TENS machine then the one I hired. The Obi TENS is small enough to fit in your pocked or hang around your neck.  I was easily able to remove the electrode pads and go into the shower then replace the pads once I got out.

The TENS did not limit my movement one bit. The unit has varying levels, so in early labour I started very light and as the intensity of the contractions got harder I would increase the level of electrical pluses. As the contraction would peek I would use the convenient BOOST button for that extra punch of power to combat the pain.  This little device was above all a great distraction to the contractions. The battery life on the device was great, with no need to change in the midst of labour.

I highly would recommend anyone aiming to manage labour pain effectively, drug free whilst maintaining mobility to try a TENS Machine.

Jessie’s Story

As someone who has had a traumatic experience with pain in the past, the feeling of being able to press a button when a contraction came on was weirdly helpful psychologically.

I don’t even have words for how thankful I am for the TENS machine. I wore it for legitimately 50 hours. It saved my labour. It meant I could cope with a really long early labour and I literally wore it until we did the epidural. Your advice and wisdom was so so helpful. I had the most positive experience.

Again, you’re a legend. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

Tamara’s Story

Contractions were 14 hours long and I was able to have an unmedicated birth

Thank you for letting me hire the TENS and thank you, we are both doing well. I found it very helpful, it was what I used pretty much throughout the whole way, besides when in the water. Contractions were 14 hours long and I was able to have an unmedicated birth. Thanks again!

Ebony’s Story

It definitely helped with the back pain that came with the contractions.

I loved it! I used it for hours as my little one was in spine on spine position. It definitely helped with the back pain that came with the contractions. Will definitely get again for #2.

Ash’s Story

I used it right up until my final push. No other intervention, so I’m so glad I had it with me

I gave birth at 40+9 and found the TENS machine extremely helpful, I used it right up until my final push. No other intervention, so I’m so glad I had it with me.

Additional Feedback From the TENS Experience

The TENS was my favourite tool. My only regret was having to take it off to get in the tub. For me the TENS worked better than gas and bathtub/shower. I'll be back to get it for the next one!

I found the TENS super helpful. It was great in the early stages so I could still get some sleep and rest in between contractions.

I used it most of my labour and it was my main pain management strategy.

The TENS was the most useful thing I had in my labour! It was the only thing I used! I’m so glad I had it.

Thanks so much.
